A Visual Story of Connection and Compassion

I was approached to design Dementia Wellington’s annual report. A document that not only informs, but also uplifts, reflects the dignity of its audience, and honours the deeply human stories behind the statistics.

The Challenge: Designing for an organisation like Dementia Wellington goes beyond layout. The visual language needed to be emotionally sensitive, inclusive, and accessible, while also celebrating the strength, support, and achievements of the year.

Design Formula

Continuous line illustrations flow across the pages of the document like thoughts. The hands featured throughout serve as metaphors for the care, connection, and community that Dementia Wellington fosters every day.

Bold, energising colours combined with strong typographic hierarchy guides the reader through the report in a way that is clear, confident, and respectful. Every design element follows Dementia Wellington’s accessible design guidelines, ensuring legibility, clarity, and inclusivity for people of all ages and cognitive abilities.

Celebrating Community

The report captures the organisation’s impact, from services delivered to the incredible support of donors and volunteers. The goal was to create a document that feels as human and hopeful as the people it represents.

StoryLab Results

The final report is more than a compliance document. It’s a storytelling piece that honours the kaupapa, supports understanding, and visually reinforces Dementia Wellington’s message of connection, dignity, and possibility.
